The Cultural Affairs Office of the Public Affairs Section focuses on academic and cultural exchanges, democracy and civil society projects, and American studies.
One of the best known academic exchanges is the Fulbright Program for teachers, lecturers, researchers, and graduate students. The Fulbright office also houses student advising facilities, as well as a test center for computer-based standardized tests, e.g. TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, and USMLE.
The Cultural Affairs Office cooperates with the Soros Foundation to support a network of educational advising centers around Hungary. The centers give advice to Hungarian university students who want to study in the U.S. There are several centers throughout Hungary, including a national coordinating office at the Fulbright Commission.
The Cultural Affairs Office coordinates American Studies Programs to support Hungarian universities and institutions of American Studies, sending professors and experts to short-term programs such as U.S.-based winter and summer institutes on American Studies topics or conferences and meetings of U.S. scholarly associations. Under our non-academic International Visitor Program, a number of Hungarians visit the U.S. for a first-person view of some aspect of U.S. society, such as politics, economics, media, education, and environment.
The Cultural Affairs Office has supported the introduction in Hungarian secondary schools of curricula dealing with responsible citizenship in a democracy. The Office also supports American Studies and English teaching programs at Hungarian universities, colleges and other institutions with English teaching materials and other forms of support, including programs for broadcast.
The Cultural Affairs Office provides American speakers and specialists in professional and academic fields for workshops, training programs, or to act as consultants. The office offers some limited facilitative support to American artists coming to Hungary, as well as Hungarian artists with an American connection.

The site now includes a moderated Question and Answer feature with monthly guest speakers. Registered users can also search the database of State Alumni community members to find colleagues, friends, and alumni with similar interests. Alumni are also given the option of posting their own news, events, or links. To register, please click on the link below or visit https://alumni.state.gov/. - Study of the United States
