U.S. Special Envoy for EU Affairs and Eurasian Energy, C. Boyden Gray, on a June 6-8, 2008 visit to Budapest as part of a U.S. Chiefs of Mission conference hosted by Ambassador April Foley, stressed the importance of energy security for Hungary.
The Special Envoy met with Foreign Minister Kinga Göncz, Hungarian parliamentarians and Mihály Bayer, the Nabucco Ambassador and discussed energy issues. He was pleased to learn that Hungary is committed to Nabucco and noted that the Nabucco project is more advanced than the competing South Stream pipeline.
Besides his official meetings, Mr. Gray took time out for the Hungarian press, giving interviews to two national dailies, Népszava and Magyar Nemzet, in which he discussed the need for diversity of energy sources.
